A little about me
I'm Claire, an experienced teacher and tutor with 29 years in education. After many years working in schools, I now run CW Educational Services, providing personalised one-to-one tuition for children aged 5-12.
Throughout my career, I've always believed that children learn best when they feel confident, understood and engaged. Every child is different, and I love being able to adapt my teaching to the individual — finding the approach, activity or explanation that helps something finally click.
Moving into tutoring has given me the opportunity to work much more closely with individual children and their families. It allows me to focus not only on academic progress, but also on helping children develop confidence in themselves as learners.
Every child deserves to feel successful
I believe that children learn best when they feel safe to make mistakes, confident enough to have a go and understood as an individual. Learning shouldn't be about simply working through a set programme — it should respond to the child in front of me.
I take time to understand each child's strengths, the areas they find more difficult and the way they learn best. Sessions are then carefully adapted to meet those needs, using targeted teaching alongside games, practical activities and plenty of encouragement.
My aim isn't simply to help children make academic progress. I want them to understand themselves better as learners, recognise what they can do and develop the confidence to tackle things they once found difficult.
Developing my specialist practice
Over time, I found myself working with more children who experienced specific difficulties with literacy. I wanted to understand more about why those difficulties arise, how to identify individual areas of need and, most importantly, how I could support children more effectively.
This led me to complete specialist training in dyslexia awareness, screening and targeted learning support. The course has developed both my knowledge and my confidence as a practitioner, giving me additional tools to understand how individual children learn and where particular difficulties lie.
I now hold Specialist Practice Tutor status through the Dyslexia Academy, and I'm excited to bring this additional expertise into my work with children and families.
